Films in the Third Dimension are Worth Making Filmmaking is starting to make a turn into the third dimension. Three-dimensional [3D] films are definitely not worth the investment. What makes something worth making is if a film will please the viewer and if they will be happy they spend their time watching it. A 3D film is a movie that has images in it that come out of the screen towards the audience. In this essay I will discuss three reasons why 3D is not good. 3D films cost too much money to produce; the current level of technology out today is not ready. 3D movies are bad for your brain and eyes. The equipment used for filming 3D movies is very high tech for this time. It is not a good investment for this time period. Editing takes a long time, it takes twice as long to edit film in 3D. When you’re editing two-dimensional [2D] film you only have one space to work with. When you’re editing in the third dimension you work with that same one space, twice. According to the digital handbook, while editing, you have to work with two different video clips at the same time. You work with a left eye and a right eye clip (Martin 28). If you have to edit two clips for every one shot in a film, it will take twice as long to finish an edit for said film. Films that use 3D technology need far more advanced machines. A typical editing machine uses lots of random-access memory [RAM] to edit a single clip and add it to a sequence. If you were to edit two clips at the same time you would need twice the amount of RAM to prevent your machine from crashing. While the machine crashing can be bad for the production, watching 3D can be bad for your health. 3D movies are bad for you. 3D causes motion sickness, which can make some people feel nauseous.
