Aptitude versus Intelligence This paper is going to present a comparative examination about concepts of aptitude and intelligence. Accordingly, to achieve this purpose at first the definitions of both concepts are presented, and then the differences and similarities are mentioned. The concept of aptitude An aptitude is a component of a competence to do a certain kind of work at a certain level, which can also be considered "talent". In accordance with just-mentioned definition aptitude is measurable and high number of aptitude tests certify this fact. It is regarded as a natural competence which plays a significant role in everybody’s daily life. Aptitudes may be physical or mental. It is not understanding, knowledge, learned or acquired abilities (skills) or attitude. For instance, we often talk about a student’s aptitude for learning languages, a child’s aptitude for drawing, a mother’s aptitude for crossword puzzles or even a husband’s aptitude for golf. Some celebrity researchers and applied linguists in particular have conducted lots of researches on this category to find out to what extent this vital matter is considered as the basis of every daily activity. It is said that the role of aptitude in learning second language is essential and the quality of innate aptitude bearing particular capacity for learner influences all learning stages of a learner. Some theorists, for instance, Alfred Binet have proposed several theories on aptitude. Aptitude has an active role in getting people to adapt to the environment and keep balance. Since aptitude is regarded as a measurable stuff so the psychologists who have ever worked on this field released some assessment tests to measure the degree of existent aptitude.
