Hampton MGT 497 Professor Janice Flegle September 10, 2012 Introduction In this era of technology, and with more than 84 million iPads sold since its debut in 2010, it’s safe to say people know who Apple is. Apple, Inc. is a designer, manufacturer, and marketer of personal computers, mobile communications, media devices, and portable digital music players. Apple’s mission statement is, “Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork and professional software. Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store. Apple has reinvented the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, and has recently introduced iPad 2 which is defining the future of mobile media and computing devices” (Hamilton, 2011). Apple’s management of technology and innovation goals are to bring, “the best personal computing experience to students, educators, creative professionals and consumers around the world through its innovative hardware, software and Internet offerings” (Hamilton, 2011). In this paper I will analyze Apple, Inc. and provide information on pertaining to Apple’s Strategic Information Technology Plan. Executive Summary Apple’s position as one of the leading retailers of consumer electronics is not due to good fortune or happenstance. It is a direct product of its strategic capabilities and its effective management of technology and innovation. The leadership of the organization, including stakeholders, are continuously evaluating and reevaluating the firm, and organizational roles and responsibilities to address quality standards, the demand for product, factors that could potentially inhibit the success of innovation, and its response to competition in the market.
