Appeasement An important historical event was the appeasement in the 1930’s. At the end of the First World War, Britain and France have been trying to avoid future conflicts with Germany. That’s why they come up with the policy of appeasement, the policy of settling international conflicts by admitting and satisfying the countries and aggressive leaders by giving them what they want. This policy, however, was stretched to its limits until countries such as Britain, were giving into the demands of Germany in order to avoid a substantial war. Adolf Hitler the leader of Germany wanted through the 1930’s, got what he wanted by this policy. Neville Chamberlain, the British Prime minister, put appeasement into full when he came into power in May 1937. This policy, consequently, contributed profoundly to the outbreak of the Second World War. After World War one, Britain avoided another war by all cost. The people of the time felt that the longer that they avoided the aggression the more time they would gain strength in case on conflict become unavoidable. Britain and France was also prepared to give is to the demands of Germany and Hitler because the country feared the spreading threat of communism. The long term cause of the appeasement was Hitler’s foreign policy. When Hitler came to power he was determined to make Germany a great power again and to dominate Europe. Hitler wanted to create more living space for his people and uniting all German speaking people across Europe. His tactics involved using the threat of violence to achieve his aims. He realized that his enemies, France and Britain, were reluctant to go to war and were prepared to settle to avoid a repeat of World War One.
