Apocalypto The movie Apocalypto tells the story of a young man’s journey with his village is captured and is force in slavery, and we are able to follow him on his journey trying to come back home to his family. That he happened to hide in a cave during this period the Mayans were growing and needed more people to sacrifice to their god. In this movie I noticed that many of the natives had unique names like the main character, like Jaguar Paw and Flint Sky. This gives me the impression that they used the names based off of the nature that surrounds them. This movie was directed by Mel Gibson and was filmed in Catemaco and Mexico (“Apocalypto”). Mel Gibson also happened to turn down a role so that he could direct this movie (Apocalypto). I love the work he has done especially in the Passion of Christ this movie had similarities Because both were graphic and had breathe taking scenes. The other thing noticed during the movie is when the mother treats her son after he falls and cuts himself. She uses these bugs as if they were stitches and learned that in the early native times natives believed that health was an expression of the spirit and that the only way they could stay “healthy” is by being strong spiritually, mentally, and physically. When the movie ends you will find out that the voyage of Columbus arrives which gives us an idea of what will happen next. Like “diseases” and more enslavement. Other than that I enjoyed the movie, it was interesting to be able to look into natives lives and realize that they weren’t so different. For example when they tricked their friend to eat the testicals of the pig. This really “humanized” them for me. Even when the step mother wanted to have babies, I could just imagine it happening in real life. Just no so open like they were in the village. O truly enjoyed it.
