Laura Dumpson January 2011 Global AP Jackson Per. 7 Aphrodite Aphrodite is the Greek Goddess of beauty, love, and sexuality. Hesiod’s Theogony, it claims Aphrodite was born when Cronus cut off Uranus’ genital and threw them into the sea. From the sea foam (aphros) arose Aphrodite. Gods feared that because of her beauty, jealousy would disrupt the peace among them leading to war.
Usually she is depicted nude because it symbolizes her beauty and sexual attractiveness. It is a 63x24x24in statue so its around five feet tall and two feet in all directions In Greek mythology Aphrodite is the Goddess of love, beauty and sexual rapture. She was born when the God Uranus, who is the father of all Gods, was castrated or neutered by his son Cronus. Cronus then threw the genetalia into the ocean. The ocean started to foam and out of the foam rose Aphrodite who was carried by the ocean to Cyprus or Cythera.
While Romeo felt passionate, eros love for Rosaline, the sincerity was lacking and eventually deteriorated. This is first exhibited through Romeo’s descriptions of Rosaline’s physical beauty. First, Romeo juxtaposes Rosaline’s beauty to the moon, “She hath Dian’s wit” which is a common comparison to Greek women (1.1.217). Romeo, however, emphasizes the sun’s superior beauty when compared to Rosaline as he states, “One fairer than love! The all seeing sun / Ne’er saw her match since the world begun” (1.3.99-100).
She defied him and lit a lamp, which caused Eros to flee. She then went on a wandering quest to find him. This myth has a happy ending as they ultimately found one another and she was able to become immortal. Another son of Aphrodite was Hermaphroditus, who was a good looking man. Salmacis the nymph fell in love with him.
We can see that most of these Gods have had different sexual relations with different gods. Aphrodite cheated on her lame husband with Ares and then had many sexual relations with other gods and mortals. If we want to analyze the story of Aphrodite, we can say that she represents human love passions. She was physically attracted to Ares maybe because of his beauty that she couldn't find in her lame husband. This reflects the desire for perfection.

The hero of Greece and son of Zeus, king of the gods, Heracles is one of the most popular of the Greek mythological heroes. Son of the mortal woman Alcmene and Zeus, he was conceived when Zeus took the form of Amphitryon in order to seduce Alcmene. From birth Heracles was the subject of Heras’ hatred. Hera the queen of the gods hated him as he was a constant reminder of yet another unfaithful act of Zeus. Her fury at Zeus over his infidelity for his many affairs caused much of the hardships Heracles faced through his life.
Indisputably, these rendezvous are a result of Odysseus’ unparalleled charisma. Many of the female characters in the epic are attracted to Odysseus, which he blatantly uses their attraction to his own advantage and pushes himself forward on his journey home. In the process he harms and betrays the women he is involved with emotionally. The earliest example in the epic appears during the seven years Odysseus is held captive on the sea-nymph Calypso’s island Ogyia. He sleeps with Calypso, leading her to fall in love with him.
