English 102 / Synthesis Activity Synthesis Activity Cyberbullying matters because it’s detrimental to youth in American society and it needs to be stopped but where does the responsibility to stop cyber bullying fall? Do parents have a duty to take responsibility or should schools and government and lawmakers take responsibility? This essay will discuss who has the responsibility to stop cyber bullying. Should parents spy on their kids to see if they are being cyber bullied? Parents do have the responsibility to prevent cyber bullying because they provide technology to their kids and have the responsibility to make sure that the technology they provide to their children is being used properly and safely.
Bullying is something that occurs all the time. People don’t like being bullied but they don’t know how to stop it. Often people who are being bullied ‘turn the other cheek’ to try and avoid being bullied or making the situation worse. Is turning the other cheek the right thing to do? Identify, isolate, Intimidate, Remove The school district has implemented no tolerance policies that simply do not investigate, determine cause, resolve and reinforce positive behaviors. Bullying by some students is rampant and the simple “no tolerance” policy enforces these behaviors by bullies. Bullying is taking place in front of teachers and administrators who pretend not see and say nothing. The student that is bullied is then victimized again by the school by being expelled or punished if situation comes to the attention of the school when he responds. The behavior by bullies then is virtually encouraged as students become afraid or feel that the administration will not react appropriately should they inform them of a bulling situation.
It is because this may not only lead to a damaged relationship between teachers and students, but also can lead to negative associations. Consequently, positive punishment cannot be used frequently. Apart from the above method, there is another way to chastise the students which is negative punishment. Negative punishment is the removal of a favorable stimulus after an unwelcome performance in order to decreases that response, which means if students did something wrong and their favorable things such as toys or smart phones will be taken away as a punishment. They create their own rules and expect people to abide by them, with those that do not being punished. School bullies and dictators do not want to be seen as softhearted, so they are very strict with their rules and consequences. As time passes on and a school bully’s or dictator’s reign becomes longer, they begin to believe their rules are the only rules that exist and forget about the actual law. Soon, they think their laws are the only laws that exist; this causes them to break the regular law or school rules frequently. Dictators can bribe government officials to stay out of trouble, while school bullies can bribe their principal to avoid inconveniences.
Tschinkel believes “we are failing to instill a love of learning in most of our students, replacing it instead with a pointless “game-the system” approach”. Tschinkel also states, the blame falls not only on the students, but on the entire educational system- professors, teachers, parents, the media- which encourages the sport metaphor and misrepresents the value of a true education. Tschinkel feels that students can change this mentality and actually take their education seriously however, this transition will be hard. Lastly, constant fights, suspensions, or lack of the ability to cooperate in school with other students, makes it hard for bullies to apply for other schools due to their behavioral issues. As a result, not having strict disciplinary actions instilled in schools makes it hard for bullies to excel in their academic life. Nevertheless, many believe bullying only occurs in school, and it would be unnecessary to take such drastic disciplinary actions; others, who are wise enough, know bullying could give both the bully and victim future disadvantages. In our public schools our children are not being able to exercise this right. There are opposing views on whether freedom of speech should be allowed in our public schools. On one hand it is believed that to protect our children the right of freedom of speech could be detrimental to the educational environment; on the other hand, others believe that they have this right and should be able to express themselves while allowing them to be who they are. Here are some examples of why some believe we should not uphold the right to freedom of speech within our public school system: Many students believe that school uniforms should not be introduced, because of the limitation of their freedom.
Therefore schools across the country should find a solution to stop violence. Some people argue that violence is not a problem in high schools anymore. They also say that the violence is not the same as some years ago and that kids today think differently. Other people say that violence build character and this problems compromise the future of the young generation, what make the kids not read for the future in the life, with their works, with they not being able to build a family. Other people affirm that the human rights say everyone should be treated the same way, it does not matter their color, sex, religion or age, and they explain that every single student in the school know about this, and discrimination is not a problem that affects the kids in the high schools anymore.
School Uniforms: Yay or Nay? School uniforms, one of the most debated topics in the history of debating. Some people think it’s a great thing, others think it is one of the worst things to have in schools. We’re here today to tell you reasons why schools should NOT have uniforms. There are many different reasons why schools should not force kids to wear them, but we think the three most important are, it doesn’t teach children how to get along with others, uniforms do not effect the students’ performance in school, and most importantly, it doesn’t prevent bullying from happening.
