Equality-72521, the unconquered one, or Prometheus- which ever you choose to call this intelligent young man, is most definitely one of a kind. Individuality is something we all hold dear to ourselves, believe it or not. It defines who we are and who we “click” with. After living life the way I am used to, I do not think I could ever understand how a world with so many restrictions could work. I grew up in a family of five, with my mother, father, and my two sisters. Equality-72521 never knew his mother or his father- especially if he ever had any siblings. That is just something I simply cannot wrap my head around. He could not show any of his emotions because it would show he is different from the others, making him an individual. In our society today, it is very hard for a teenager my age to stand out and be different. However, several people seem to do it and do it well. Being my own person is important to me. I, along with many others I am sure, do not like being told what to do and being considered controlled. It makes me feel sort of downgraded and much less a person and more of a regular human being. I want to have purpose to my life. That is the number one reason why Equality-72521 is a hero in my eyes. He “constantly questioned the teachers”. He knows he was different, too. “We were born with a curse. It has always driven us to thoughts which are forbidden… We know that we are evil, but there is no will in us and no power to resist it”. He is such an incredible and brave person. He stood up for what believed in and kept his ground. Never once did he back down or give up. He saw an opportunity and made a difference; he took it without a doubt. He had such a creative personality. Even though none of his brothers came up with anything new, he wanted to become a hero of his city. He wanted people to know he was smart, but that was exactly what the government
