The rose is white, wrinkly but alive. The driftwood looks like it is in a 3D form, bringing the photograph to life. Ansel Adams has taken the photograph with a close up shot, and the rose takes up most of the picture frame using what seems to be the rule of thirds, and he has left enough space so that the driftwood can be seen. The central part of the rose sits slightly to the right when you consider the rule of thirds, and I think he did this to bring to the audience’s attention the main subject of the photograph, the rose, but still allow the audience to see the things the surround the subject, in this case the driftwood. This is used to create a juxtaposition effect, the rose is beautiful and delicate but on the other hand the driftwood, although it has a pattern, is plain and hard and it is use of juxtaposition is used to compliment the
