ANOREXIA NERVOSA Describe a disorder and how could it be treated Anorexia nervosa is a life threatening eating disorder where a person refuses to gain weight. This is also a psychological disorder because people suffering from anorexia can be anxious, irrascibili, mood swings. nervosa are extremely obsessed with loosing weight and afraid of gaining weight or becoming obese. Rfusal to maintain minimum body weight within 15 % of individual’s body weight. Although normal, people see themselves fat and obese. One of the features of anorexia nervosa is distorted body image about size and shape. People affected really believe that they are grossely fat, even if they are actually extremely underweight. As a result, they are dissatisfied can’t maintain a healthy and normal body weight because their obsession restrict the food intake. Even the smallest amount of food can become an obsession. Anorexia nervosa has the same effect as starvation, this resulting in a lower metabolic rateand hormonal levels drop. According to the American Psychiatric Association, aproximateley 10 percent of people with anorexia die from starvation, or suicide. In a women, anorexia nervosa reduces estrogen and stops the menstrual cycle.amenorheea. In a men, testosterone decreases and affecting their sexual function. A very common condition of anorexia is called lanugo, a soft, fine body hair condition. Persons suffering from anorexia are usually perfectionist and rigid thinking, not very friendly or out-going, they think is better to isolate, and self-esteem is often very low., depression, poor body image. People are starving themselves to death. For example, Caren Carpenter, a famous musician, went on a water diet to lose weight and to appear more attractive. She died at the age of 32 of cardiac arrest and weigheted only eighty pounds.Girls starve themselves and avoid high calorie foods
