The next article is "Let's put Pornography Back in the Closet" by Susan Brownmiller. She is a Journalist, Women's rights activist, and a founder of Women against Pornography. Her article appeared in Newsday, a Long Island newspaper. Jacoby observes the issue of freedom of speech from an absolute unconditional perspective whereas Brownmiller is of the view that is more rational as it takes into account the various other aspects of this complex socio-cultural dilemma that goes side by side with constitutional freedom of expression. Both of these articles are geared towards audiences who have an interest in the issue of pornography.
The Power of Lara Croft: Feminist Figure or Sex Object? “Lara is everything that is bad about representations of women in culture, and everything good…” (182). This is ultimately the response that Maja Mikula gives in her essay Gender and Videogames: the Political Valency of Lara Croft to the question pertaining Lara Croft being either a feminist icon or sexist fantasy in the video game Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. An answer similar to what her creator, Toby Gard, held in his interview with The Face magazine: “Neither and a bit of both.” For the feminists, Lara has potential to project a positive image and a role model aura; yet she is limited to being a sex symbol. It is a question that is often reduced to trying to decide whether she is a positive role model for young girls or just a perfect and artificial embodiment of a male sexual fantasy for the boys.
The article “Raunch Culture” by Ariel Levy discusses how life in the twenty first century has become very raunchy and erotic. She talks about how easy it is to blame the males of our culture for objectifying women. However, it is the women who are volunteering to have these pornographic or racy photographs and videos taken of themselves. Even women athletes are posing for scantily clad pictures, and they are getting more attention for that than their specialized sporting events. This article discusses that women taking control of their sexuality and objectifying themselves are not, in fact, the same thing.

Unexpectantly the roles had switched, and I became the interviewee. She made me feel at ease and was even able to offer up sound advice on how to make my life what I wanted it to be. These traits, plus the ones that she has acquired or enhanced over the years, are the traits that make a great public relations specialist. The desire to write or create new ideas, the drive to speak in public, make a connection with people, the ability to get back up from a problem and try again, and remembering that there is more to life than just work. These are the traits that will help anyone succeed in the public relations
Children from any age group have been introduced to all sorts of music genres containing explicit language and situations. The majority of music released is either about having sex, making money, going to the clubs, or doing drugs. Women are also being seen as merely sexual objects, and degrading them has shockingly been natural to hear amongst the general public. For example, in Akon's song "Smack That" featuring Eminem quotes, "Smack that, all on the floor, smack that, give me some more." Having the entire nation listening to these lyrics takes a step back in civilization and reversing any progress feminists have done to gain respect of women.
The creator of the show, Brenda Hampton, said that the original title was The Sex Life of the American Teenager. In fact, it would not be surprising to find that many viewers would agree that such a name is much more fitting. Once again, the title, or what could have been the title, just gives the first glimpse of the show’s preoccupation with sex and all the inevitable baggage it brings. Teens hook up, break up, and make up at an alarming rate, bringing in a multitude of concerns ranging from abortion and child abuse to promiscuity and abstinence. While the show may have begun as a warning against teen pregnancy, it since has come to include a whole slew of dramatized
Hamza Mohammad Andy Varbel English 908 5/1/2012 True Beauty and Pop Culture There are many things in this world that can affect the way we act or think and pop culture is definitely one of these things. In the article “Pop Culture Is Destroying True Beauty” by Rachel Drevno, she explains how pop culture and the media is something that gets people to believe that there is a certain standard of beauty. That beauty that Drevno is talking about is all of the celebrities and people on the cover of magazines and so forth. She thinks people are trying to get themselves in the standard that pop culture wants when Drevno believes true Beauty is not what other people want you to look but rather everyone is beautiful in their own way. I do agree with Drevno in this article.
