Lucy laud Montgomery lived life to the full, traveled and defied many of the convention laid down for women in that era. At the same time, she held strong, traditional, religious beliefs, was a devoted mother and home-keeper, and always returned to her family and her place of birth. All her experiences influenced her writing, but it was the years she spent on the beautiful Prince Edward Island that inspire her stories of the lovable, red headed orphan, Anne Shirley.
