Anne Bradstreet’s Love Anne Bradstreet was born in England, during the 1700’s .she was born to a well off family who provided her with the best education. She immigrated to America ten years after the may flower. DespiteBoston being a open outpost of wildlife, she strived due to the wealth of her family. Over time the young educated woman married and bared 8 children .although extremely busy with her household, she managed to write poetry .she wrote about many things, but found great pleasure in expressing her love for her husband and family. Herpoem “to my dear and loving husband” desires her sole emotions for her husband. First, “if ever two were one, then surely we. If ever man were loved by wife then thee”(AnneBradstreet 1-3). Anne Bradstreet lived during a time where woman were to be seen and not heard. Woman were basically slaves to men .women were to cook, clean and tend to the children .some woman were spiteful of their husbands because they had greater opportunities but Bradstreet had a devout love for her husband. Although most woman of her time looked at being a housewife as being punishment she embraces it. She says they are one where as everything they do is in sync with each other. Their love for each other is mutual and ever flowing. She feels that no other woman can love her husband more than the love she has for hers. Next “I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold or all the riches that the east doth hold”(AnneBradstreet 5-6).during Bradstreet era the east was considered to be abundantly wealthy. Bradstreet says her love for her husband is more important and valuable than all the gold .she received his love as a prize and is happy she was chosen to celebrate their love with one another .she came from a wealthy family so she was already accustomed to such life style ,but with him none of that was nessacary .she wanted something practical
