Darryl Phillips Mr. Leggett English 4 28 April 17 Behind the Scenes In Animal Testing Animal experimentation is a serious issue that many people oppose, whereas others try to justify the inhumanity behind it. Because of the controversy surrounding this topic, it has caused much frustration in companies and labs that test their products on animals. There are currently many organizations such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatments of Animals) and IAAPEA (International Association Against Painful Experiments On Animals) that oppose animal testing and try to resolve this issue by providing people with knowledgeable information about what is really happening to these animals. Over one-hundred million animals die in labs worldwide every
Should animal testing be illegal? Rough Draft Sharniece Thornton Unites States Government November 17, 2011 Introduction: Throughout history, animal testing has played an important role in leading to new discoveries and human benefit. Many people are believed to be ignorant or misunderstand the nature of the lives that animals actually live, and are unable to understand the actual laboratory procedures and techniques. Other than the philosophical questions that arise, ethical questions are the main reason why many animal right activists want it banned in every country. Activists feel that to this day, there should be no good reason why any living thing should be subjected to this cruel punishment and unwanted torture just for serving another being’s needs.
However, animal testing in the medical field is acceptable in extreme cases only such as, exploring cures for deadly diseases such as AIDs. Cancer, and others. Finally, this dissertation will show the control the public has over the use of animal testing in the cosmetics field, and how they are capable of stopping it, but they are doing nothing to achieve this (U.S. Poll, 2012). The Unjustifiable Torture of the Innocent Animal testing ethical issue, nowadays, is disregarded massively since we are merely concerned with our daily issues and complications that we don’t have enough time to take a closer look at this matter.
It is true that we do things to animals that we are not for certain how are they are affected by it. He hints about his thesis in the second paragraph but I was not certain if that is where the thesis would be stated. His thesis is stated in the third paragraph “It is a demand for a complete change in our attitudes to nonhumans” and “It is a demand that we cease to regard the exploitation of other species as natural and inevitable, and that, instead, we see it as a continuing moral outrage”. Singer wants us to change the way we treat animals and will try to convince us to do so. He does make a convincing case but he compares animal liberation with three other liberation movements.
February 10, 2014 Word Count: When you think of professional athletes, what is the first thought that comes to mind? The popular position is that pro athletes are seriously overpaid. Without a doubt pro athletes go through extensive training and severe game day conditions. In that case, their salary should be a reasonable amount instead of signing contracts for millions of dollars when they should only get paid, on average, around two-hundred thousand. Why pro athletes get paid more than doctors baffles me because they don’t save lives or perform life or death surgeries.
Vivi-section violates animal freedom. And since animals cannot volunteer themselves, they are chosen for scientific purposes with no voice in the matter whatsoever. If us humans go swimming we have to sign waivers but these poor animals are being signed up for torture, which will lead to their inevitable death with no say in the matter. Vivi-section is used for scientific purposes, for finding cures that benefit the human population, sure a few animals will be saved using these cures but in the end it’s the human population that benefits more from the deaths of these helpless animals.
I firmly believe that parents should not try and enhance their children with genetic engineering. There are some parents that will disagree, however a vast majority of people will agree that genetic engineering will a slippery slope and can easily be the downfall of humanity. The main reason why genetic engineering will cause the downfall of our society is it will change the level of class in society. There will be a great divide between humans born with or humans born without being genetically engineered and those who have been genetically engineered. Only the rich will be able to afford to have their children be born engineered to perfection.
The states need to come up with strict laws that will cut numbers of animal abuse. The animals in the factories are getting treated terribly. “They call their revolution (animal rights), but the changes PETA has won for farmed animals, while numerous, are not victories for animal rights so much as for animal welfare: fewer animals per cage, better-regulated slaughter, less-cramped transport, and the like”(Unknown author). PETA stands up for animal welfare and want to raise awareness so they can pass new laws on how the animals are treated inside
Animals are counting on compassionate people to take action and save them. More than sixteen billion animals are killed for food everyday in the United States. They are neglected, mutilated, genetically manipulated, and killed in gruesome and violent ways. Cows, calves, pigs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, and other animals live in extremely stressful conditions. They
Animal Cruelty Animal Cruelty is a continuing problem that grows each and every day in America. Animal cruelty is considered any inhumane or violent act towards any animal, but Cruelty does not just pertain to physical abuse. Neglect is also a form of abuse. To improve the treatment of animals it is necessary that animal cruelty becomes a felony offense. Although some states have made the transition of making animal cruelty a felony, there are still some states where the cruelty charge only carries a misdemeanor charge.
