The great pyramid of Khufu is by far the most famous pyramid in egypt, the biggest, tallest, and most intact. It is one of the "Seven wonders of the world." It is the last one standing. It is built of entirely limestone and consinlered an architectural masterpiece. It contains around 1,300,000 blocks ranging in weight from 2.5 tons to 15 tons and is built on a square base with sides measuring about 230m (775 ft.) covering 13 acreas!
It is located in Giza where it guards the front of Khafra's pyramid. The greatest monumental sculpture in the ancient world, the Sphinx is carved out of a single ridge of stone 240 feet (73 meters) long and 66 feet (20 meters) high. The sphinx is built of soft sandstone and would have disappeared long ago had it not been buried for so long. It was the first time that a pharaoh had been represented in this way with the body of a lion, even though this animal had symbolised royalty ancient Egypt’s beginnings around 3000 BC. The animal body of the Sphinx in fact represented the king’s triumphant strength.
Buddhism was the main inspiration for art in the region, and the most important Buddhist structures were created between the first and second century BCE. Such as the Great Stupa of Sanchi, except it was built in the third century. The Great Stupa was not a tomb, however it was a monument. It is said to be that out of all of the early Indian monuments, none of them compare to the ultimate and most famous Great Stupa of Sanchi. Located at Sanchi, Central India it is admired by all.

Until the beginning of the Third Dynasty of Ancient Egypt, the main building materials were wood, reeds, and mudbrick. The first building to be constructed complexly in stone was the Step Pyramid of Pharaoh Djoser at Saqqara (Garret). Before this only a few details, such as doorways or the paving of a tomb chamber, had been made of stone. According to Manetho, the inventor of the art of building in stone was Imhotep.
The capitol houses the Louisiana State Legislature, the governor’s office, and parts of the executive branch. At 450 feet (137 meters) tall, with 34 stories, it is the tallest capitol building in the United States, the tallest building in Baton Rouge, and seventh-tallest building in Louisiana. It is located on 27 acres, the Louisiana State Capitol building is a National Historic Landmark. The Louisiana State Capitol has been around since the 19th century, the building features sculptures depicting scenes from Louisiana and U.S. history. Engraved into the stone around the main entrance is the quotation “We have lived long but this is noblest work of our whole lives…..The United States take rank this day among the first powers of the earth, said by Robert Livingston on signing of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.
Blue Tower is probably one of Chihuly’s greatest accomplishments. It is the tallest piece he has ever created and probably the tallest glass piece in the world. It stands forty-seven feet high and is 6 feet in diameter. It uses two-thousand pieces of glass it descends twenty feet into the archeological substructure of the Citadel. The tower starts off as a deep cobalt blue at the top and fades to a lighter blue which hints at the sky color changing throughout the day.
Humanities 101 25 July, 2015 The Parthenon High above the city of Athens sets the Parthenon. Although it is simple in structure, the wonderful artistry of this structure impacted classical architecture and still influences structures to this day. The Parthenon was built to house a grand, gold and ivory statue of the goddess Athena. Temples traditionally were to only be viewed from the outside (The Parthenon); the Doric style columns often interrupted the view of the temples. It was the largest Doric Greek temple but also used the Ionic temple styles (Ancient History).
Nathan Higley Period 3 August 21, 2012 AP European Extra Credit Brunelleschi’s Dome The thesis of the book Brunelleschi’s Dome by Ross King is that the Dome of Santa Maria del Fiore built by Filippo Brunelleschi at the time was the biggest and most magnificent dome ever built and to this day no one has built a dome quite like it. The cathedral took over a century to build, Filippo worked on it for a quarter of that time all on the dome. He came up with all new machines and architectural ideas to help achieve this grand feat. One of his ideas was building the dome without wooden centering which was unheard of at the time. The dome was so massive that no one believed he could build it without centering.
Brahmans were members of the priestly Hindu caste, the highest level in Hindu society (Donald Johnson). Affiliations between the Brahman’s and Royalty were highly sought. Brahmans wrote manuals explaining the ideal life that Hindus should follow. “During the Gupta Age, the first stone temples were built to honor the Hindu gods and goddesses” (Donald Johnson). Brahmin and merchants donated money to build monasteries and as a consequence, the greatest art and architecture in Indian history was created.
The Great Pyramid of Khufu is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was built with 2.3 million stone blocks, and its top rose four hundred and eighty feet above the desert. Egyptians were the first to build using stone. They constructed ginormous pyramids and statues such as the Sphinx. Ancient Egyptian inventions include papyrus, sails, bowling, door locks, and a calendar with three hundred and sixty-five days in a year.
