Ancient Chinese Contributions When you think of China what is the first thing that comes to mind? The Great Wall? Communism? Maybe cheap labor? Made in China seems to be a staple in our society today. It’s something that we’ve become accustomed to. How about a nice cup of hot tea on a cold day or cold glass of ice tea on a hot day, rarely if ever do you think about where the tea came from or who is credited with inventing it. You just enjoy your tea. Tea is one of the many inventions and contributions that trace back to ancient Chinese culture. I would like to take a look at some others inventions and contributions from ancient China and how they impact our lives. Inventions and Contributions There is a laundry list (no pun intended) of inventions and contributions that we could talk about, but I’m going to list just a few. This list is arguably believed to be the best of the best from ancient China. It would depend on who you asked which of ancient China’s many great inventions is actually the greatest. Some would say without a doubt it is the production of tea, others would argue that it is silk, and then of course there are many that believe its gunpowder, and still others that believe paper is best invention to come from the ancient Chinese. Also, you could include in that list, the compass, paper currency, toilet paper, printing, alcohol/wine and porcelain. Each and every one of the inventions mentioned is still being used today. That’s pretty incredible when you think about it…things that were invented thousands of years ago are still being used today.
