Anchor Babies Mark D. Hrycyk Abstract The purpose of this paper is to inform you that babies are being born in the United States by illegal aliens and automatically becoming citizens. These babies are known as Anchor Babies and the responsibility of taking care of them falls to the citizens of the United States. This is the law of the United States. Anchor Babies When a child is born in the United States they automatically become citizens of the US. When Illegal Aliens have children here in the United States they are called Anchor Babies by the citizens who oppose allowing them this right. By the 14th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States these Anchor Babies become citizens of the United States but many believe this law is outdated and not practical for this day and age. Anchor Babies have the right to become United States citizens even if their parents are in the here illegally. “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction, thereof are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” (FindLaw, 2010) This is the first line of the 14th Amendment in the United States Constitution and protects all the citizens of the United State of America. These Anchor Babies can come from any race, color or creed and only have to be born on the sovereign soil of the United States to become citizens. It does not matter if both, one or neither of their parents are citizens the child still has the same rights as all of the other citizens of the United States.
