Analyzing Bowling for Columbine As any member of the National Rifle Association will tell you, guns don't kill people; people kill people. This was emphasized in the movie Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore. The movie Bowling for Columbine is a documentary about the violence in America. The movie starts out with one of the most shocking events in America, the Columbine shooting, an event where two Columbine students shot up the school after a class of bowling. Moore’s main purpose in the movie was to address the problem with violence, and gun ownership playing a part together. Moore’s audience would have to be America in general. To inform America on how significant violence is and how we promote it. Promoting it threw the news, word of mouth, and threw government involved figures. An example of this is when Moore went to Canada and asked Canadians what they viewed on TV. And it showed that their news is nothing like ours. It is filled with forgiveness, love and caring. Our news includes the latest gunshot-out, the newest drug bust, and even the closest neighborhood watch. This could be one of the reasons why Canada’s annual gun related death is 165 while America’s is well over 11,000. In the movie, Moore uses three different techniques to promote his purpose in the movie; these techniques include Pathos, Logos and Ethos. In the movie, Moore uses ethos to help him gain the trust and belief from his audience. Moore does this threw credibility, trustworthiness, sincerity, authority, persuasiveness, intelligence, reputation, experience, fairness and thoughtfulness. One of the examples of this was when Moore took two of Columbine’s students to visit the headquarters of K-mart, to try and prevent further sell of the bullets that entered their bodies. This was a thoughtful act on Moore part; it made his audience feel like he cared enough about the students, and
