Analyzing Olson's 'The Use Of Force'

ENC 1102 Professor V Minchener Student Jose Jose Guillermo Macias Date 2/7/2012 The Use of Force Based on the details revealed by the writer throughout the story, a reader could picture a home that was surrounded of cold weather where not too many good events were occurring. It is not difficult to determine that the environment at the time that the doctor arrived was negative. The weather was definitely extreme, the communication among the individuals that interacted during the story was rough, and the approach of the doctor to comments and behaviors of the Olson family was not the best. One of the first impression gather from any reader is the cold weather. At the time that the mother welcomed the doctor, the first thing she mentioned was the location where they were holding their child. Once the doctor came she directed him straight to the kitchen sine it was the warmest room in the house. When the doctor came into the kitchen before he approached his patient he removed his coat, after mentioning that she was completely covered. An aspect very obvious that a reader can notice, is the rough manner of communication implemented by the Olson’s family. There were multiple occasions where they were not as kind to each other. This is the main reason why the behavior of the doctor was not the best. For instance there were multiple comments made by the parents of the patient where their intension was to facilitate the process of the examination. But, there were several comments specially made by her mother that really bother the doctor. For instance; the mother many times call the doctor “ a kind man, that is trying to help” many times she said “he will not hurt you” specially in this comment even though he did not said anything to her, he was very upset of her pronouncing that
