Analyzing a Web Page BSHS/352 Jason Andrade March 18, 2013 Analyzing a Web Page The internet has become a convenient and efficient means by which resources and information can be gained for numerous projects and purposes. In the case of Human Services, the internet can provide a fast and efficient means by which to provide individuals and families with information regarding the services and assistance available to them from different organizations. Based on the criteria listed by Widener (2011), this paper will illustrate the analysis of the Richmond Department of Human Services webpage and verify that the four components of proper analysis; Authority, Accuracy, Currency and Objectivity are present thereby validating the accuracy of the page. Authority The first step in identifying a website as a resource for Human Services is to conduct a search using a reputable search engine. For this task, GOOGLE, which is a commonly used search engine, was used to identify a web page for a local government Human Services department in the city of Richmond, Virginia. The search listed the link to Richmond.org. The page lists, links to Government pages, information for residents, businesses, visitors and also a link to online services. The page also lists the address and contact information for the mayor of Richmond, 900 E. Broad St. Richmond, VA 23219 , the contact phone number: (804)646-7000, the hours of operations: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. as well as the name of the mayor, Dwight C. Jones and the date of publication and source : 2011 City of Richmond. The site also shows the city seal in the bottom right hand corner as well as a Digital Government Achievement Award logo, which identifies the fact that the site won an award in 2011.
