Being a minority living on an Indian Reservation, made him make decisions that would change his life for the better. This is a story of emotional and physical trauma from early childhood on. Living on mainly government assistance for every basic need caused this young man to take his abusive ordeal and turn his life into something very powerful. INDIAN EDUCATION “Indian Education” is a biography written by Sherman Alexie.
Dalton doesn’t understand until later that the small black girl couldn’t have been his sister and struggles to understand the racial differences of the society. As he gets older, he starts to realize the cultural problem that was surrounding him. That sounds weird, but that described Junior’s complex feeling. If you ever moved to a new country or a new city, or transferred schools, changed jobs, then you might understand how Junior felt in the book. This book covers a lot of issues: poverty, social justice, racism, cultural shock, self-awareness, hope, isolation, friendship etc.
Then they decide on having another child who born with genetic modification. After that, Vincent’s stronger brother, Anton was born. Day by day, Vincent grows up and he looks very nerdy with glasses, high-riding baggy shorts. He thinks that he is not a part of his family and his father rejects him for Anton. Vincent was very insecure and disappointed because his parents had no faith in him.
By reading the principal’s speech, Richard was saying what the white power wanted him to say and to Richard this would be giving in to the very thing he hated so much. Richard was willing to leave school without a diploma instead of this. White people alienated Richard from his environment because he did not accept the way of life that other black people did. Richard’s relatives never understood Richard and because of this he was alienated from his family and his own people. Shorty is the young black boy who gets beat by the white people and jokes about it.
Also besides gaining a friendship you get yourself some competition. The both of yall would try to be better than each other often going head to head. By doing that not only does that keep you active but it makes you better. Just like the old saying “practice makes perfect” by playing more you get better. Competition always brings out the best in you and when it’s coming from a teammate makes it that much better.
Without assistance of a good teaching system he manages to transform the class by giving up personal life, and jeopardizing his job to join students together. Mr. Hundert fails to meet the super teacher formula by not teaching in a bad school, does not have antagonistic administration, and failing to transform rebel student Sedgewick bell. The “super teacher” myth indicates a teacher teaching in a bad school therefore St. Benedict’s Academy meets not the criteria. St Benedict’s Academy is a highly prestigious academy where over achieving students attend. The movie presents the school as a highly educated organized school.
Some changes that that take place are increased independence from your parents more influence from peers Greater ability to sense right and wrong. All of this can be found in the character Gogol, because in this early life Gogol was heavily influences by his peers in school. Gogol did not become aware of hi name until he was made fun off by his peers in school. Also attending a white dominated school, he fell out of place by the color of his skin, and needed to fit in with the people outside of his home. In the beginning of the movie made an introduction a Gogol mother trying on this father shoes before picking him as a husband.
He born and grew up in an Indian reservation. He felt as if he wasn’t getting the best education he could possibly get, and decided to seek a better schooling at an off-reservation all white high school. He had to deal with a completely different culture. Even though we are amongst people with different traditions and beliefs, it is very important to stay true to who we are. Struggle for self-identity can be another concept that we can get from your story.
Stereotyping in “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” In Sherman Alexie’s “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian”. Junior is negatively affected by stereotypes about American Indians. He stereotypes all American Indians as poor, stupid and dirty. When he tries to escape all of these stereotypes he transfer to Reardan , a white school , and finds out that other people stereotypes American Indians in the same way. The main theme of this book, “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” (by Sherman Alexie), is about Junior trying to find strength and hope to accept himself.
