This would be a strategic marketing decision as the research they did helped them to make a decision to bring a popular product to the UK. They looked at their recent success with Coca-Cola Vanilla after its success in the US and also the demand for the product after pulling from the UK product range. So they decide that re-launching a product that was popular before in the UK would benefit them, more than a new flavour, such as Coca-Cola Bubble-gum. So with Coca-Cola, re-launching Coca-Cola Vanilla they would have to launch packaging that would show off the Vanilla flavour but also have the trade mark Coca-Cola logo, so it would be able to expand the Coca-Cola range. To see if they had made the right packaging they would use primary and qualitative research methods such as focus groups, which they carried out to see what consumer would see as their preferred design.

More Minutes of Flavor Robert Shipman DeVry University Professor Wunibald English 112 More Minutes of Flavor The ad posted by gum manufacturer, Beech Nut, for their peppermint flavored gum communicates the uniquely longer-lasting, better tasting flavor over other brands tested. The ad itself is colorful, simply displaying the event of an independent research study being conducted on selected secretaries. This approach directs attention to the fact that research is an effective method of determining what consumers think about their product and why. Beech Nut’s goal is to communicate to the reader that they, the consumer, can discover how long and how much they “enjoy its better, stronger peppermint flavor.” Using appeals to reason (logos), to practicality (ethos), and to emotion (pathos) they successfully and effectively persuade the reader to believe that the gum they provide has been consumer tested for enjoyment, better taste, and “more minutes of flavor.” Beech Nut uses an appeal to the consumer’s sense of reason (logos) to persuade them into believing that most secretaries prefer their gum to the other brands. Beech Nut starts out with a statement that creates an interest in the consumer to find out what secretaries think.
How Calvin Klein Persuades Consumers There are thousands of new consumer items, from clothing to electronics that come out each season. In order for companies to sell their merchandise, they must find a way to get public recognition. One way they achieve this is by making some sort of claim while also drawing in the audience by appealing to their emotions and values through advertisements. The implicit claim of this image, which I found in Women’s Health magazine, is that you will feel comfortable, sexy, and uninhibited when you work out in Calvin Klein’s Performance wear.
They attempt to persuade readers to buy a product/viewpoint using the same kinds of appeals authors use when constructing a written argument. So, when you analyze a piece of media, it is important to remember the rhetorical triangle. Ask yourself: Who is the author? How is the author trying to represent himself/herself? What is the message and how is that message coming across?
To be profitable, consumers have to be aware of new products and purchase the items; this is how companies increase revenue. Being able to effectively manage the four Ps of the marketing mix are crucial to the success of the new product or service being marketed. The four Ps consist of product or service, place, price, and promotion (Lamb, 2013). By using the four Ps marketing mix, it assist in how your company decides to market a new product or service; and tests current marketing strategy.
