Some say the American dream has fallen apart, while others believe that it is still alive. In Bob Herbert’s article, “Hiding from Reality” he said, “However you want to define the American dream, there is not much of it that is left anymore”(564). He believes, that we’re failing at the American dream and nobody will be able to save it. But, in the article “The American Dream: Dead, Alive, or on Hold?” Brandon King states, “I believe that the ideals and values of the American Dream are still very much alive”(572).
A rhetorical question is a question that is asked in order to make a point, it is asked merely for effect with no answer expected (Merriam-Webster, 2011). The Rhetorical question that JFK asks in his inaugural speech was: “Can we forge against these enemies a grand and global alliance, North and South, East and west, that can assure a more fruitful life for all mankind? Will you join in that historic effort?”(John F. Kennedy) This question basically asks the millions of Americans to join in his efforts, to get behind him and help assure the more “fruitful life. By asking this question he is calling the American people, not only to realize the hostility that had been happening between countries but also to do something and to take action. He is inspiring them to do more for their country and causing them to think what they are willing to do for their country and at what
Ian Brown Mr. Moran English I - Honors 12 March 2012 Year-Round Schooling Pro Rebuttal The issue of having year-round school in America or not has been going around for decades. This system is practiced throughout the world with the huge exception of many of our schools. Some claim that it doesn’t make a difference to a child’s scores, but spending more time in the classroom, with shorter but often breaks, can keep their mind refreshed. Even U.S. President Barack Obama stated that the hardships and new challenges in this emerging century “demand more time in the classroom.” Some opponents of this system say that our summer vacation is the perfect time to have a full time-off and that you won’t lose much of what you learned the previous school year. In fact, according to a study at the University of Missouri, they found that many students forgot over two and one-half months of whatever their grade-level equivalency is in mathematics.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights; that these are life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.” The declaration of independence was made hundreds of years ago but not many people have those rights. Maya Angelou wrote the poem “On The Pulse Of Morning” for president Clintons inaugural in 1992. Her poem describes what people had to endure to live the American dream and she states that we belong here and nothing can take that dream away from us. Living in America in the past has been very difficult, you had to do something to be someone. For example, Maya Angelou begins with the dinosaurs were once here but they died and all we have left

The Genius of America In June of 1986, I began my official citizenship in the United States of America. Though legally claiming my nationality has never been an issue (being born on American soil is enough to grant any infant rights), allowing the USA to stake claim in my heart, head, soul – whatever part of a human’s being it is that possesses individuals to put flags atop their vehicle antennas or wear cheap screen -print shirts with red, white and blue letters reading I LOVE THE USA – hasn’t exactly happened yet. I’ll admit, during high school government class, I let my rebellious side take over, going against every view that was supported by the majority (leaving me somewhere between democrat and anarchist by the term’s end), but
Ethos – Appeals to Authority and Credibility By Megan McIntyre and Jessica McKee Power is the most persuasive rhetoric. – Friedrich Schiller I’ve always wondered why candidates have to “approve this message”; I mean, if President Obama is on camera talking about himself, can’t I assume he approves the message ? Why does he have to state that he approves at the end? There’s certainly a law that governs what must be said at the end of a political advertisement, or else President Obama wouldn’t say exactly the same thing as every other politician at the end of an ad, but there’s also an element of persuasion at work here. By appearing on camera saying that he approves the content, the President is giving the ad credibility.

The idea of the American dream has been around since the founding of the United States and is still important today. The American dream has changed over time, and the dream means something different for different people throughout time. Many have given their opinion of the American dream. In 1971, Hunter S. Thompson wrote about his quest for his version of the American dream in his book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
This book is not a complete study of the American Revolution; readers will have to go elsewhere for such a chronicle, but it is the story of seven leadership moments that helped to win Liberty during the struggle for Independence. On these pages you will learn about real people facing real challenges and overcoming what reasonable people believed were insurmountable odds. Considering The Past Adult Development and Life Assessment PSY 202 Considering The Past Considering the Present assignment last week allowed me to take a deeper look on my life and all the achievements I have accomplished and looking forward to achieving. Never really appreciated what life changes have taken place until you have a moment of truth and that exactly what happened. I have chosen two uplifting life changing events from last week’s assignment to discuss as considering the past. Both are influenced by Bronfenbrenner’s proposed a theory which focused on board, interconnected influence on human development, Mossler (2013). The first event I chose was in my childhood days when I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior.
