Counseling & Family Therapy with Latino Populations Book Review “Counseling and Family Therapy with Latino Populations” is based on theories and practices; the editors and contributors believe are helpful to counseling individuals working with such a population. Although the contributors provide helpful techniques for working with Latinos, it is important to remember these people are also unique individuals. Each individual requires different needs. There are two editors for the book and ten contributors. Robert L. Smith, Ph. D “is a professor and the department hair of counseling and educational psychology at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi”. He has published about sixty articles and six textbooks. Smith’s doctoral degree in educational psychology and his place as coordinator of the doctoral program in counselor education, makes him creditable for this book. “Dr. Smith is a lecturer and consultant to several programs in Latin America”. The other editor, Rev. R. Esteban Montilla D. Min., BDPC, is the Coordinator of Latin American Program Development and Assistant Professor. Montilla also received his Ph. D in counselor education at Texas A&M University. Currently, “Montilla is one of the pioneers of the hospice movement and counseling profession to several countries in Latin America”(St. Mary’s University). There are 10 contributors to the book. These include; Patricia Arredondo, Homer A. Bain, Nadia Bakir, Catherine Cueva, Celia Jaes Falicov, Norma S. Guerra, Salvador Minuchin, Richard J. Ricard, Stephen Southern, and Mario Zumaya. Each of these individuals either has a degree in counseling or development, or has extensive experience working with diverse populations.
