Wills’ claims that the federal government's chief law enforcement official might need a refresher course on federal law pertaining to legal immigrants. Some American legislators have taken up the position that prohibiting bilingual ballots would be racist. However, evidence shows that millions of other American citizens feel that prohibiting the bilingual ballot is a step in the right direction. Wills’ begins his article with a political anecdote quoted by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. When he was asked whether he would favor the prohibition of the bilingual ballot, he simply stated, “Of course not.” Wills’ continues in the next section stating that our national identity and our federal laws are being weakened by immigration that is influenced by these bilingual ballots.
On the other hand, I think that our government has the right to do everything in it’s power to ensure our safety, including spying on those in countries who have threatened our own. If the NSA could have taken a closer look or had more information about Hazmi and Midhar’s plan to travel to the United States, their trip would have never been successful. The NSA needs to focus their attention more to the other countries instead of basically wasting all of their time with U.S. citizens, and maybe slips like letting terrorist into our homeland wouldn’t happen. They are getting their systems blown up with information that is useless to them from Americans. If they didn’t have to spend the time to sort through all of America’s “evidence,” then they would probably be able to seek out and confirm the terroristic threats and evidence coming from outside of the
In the essay “Why Fear National ID Cards?” by Alan Dershowitz, Dershowitz elaborates his views on national identity cards and the benefits of having one. He sums it up by stating “A little less anonymity for a lot more security.” With that being said what makes him so sure that something as simple as a national identity card would make society secure? What would stop a person with a national ID from committing a crime or other acts of terror? Yes having one would make it easier to pin point a suspected terrorist but the reality of the situation is there would be no change in the level of security with or without a national identity card. Dershowitz makes it clear that he is skeptical about the idea of national ID cards and states that he supports national identity cards with chips matching a person’s fingerprints.
Their mission is to prevent illegal aliens from entering that cause a threat to American society. Often their purpose is confused. With all of the debates going on regarding border security, what can we do to solve this age old issue? America’s plans to control the invasion of immigrants haven’t worked so far, maybe it’s time to find other ways of dealing with this problem. I personally do not feel that we can ever completely stop immigration.
“Imagination… can lead to moral clarification.”(1) Savant believes that we must try to imagine why an illegal immigrant chooses to come illegally before we make a judgment call. He goes on to tell two stories of two different, yet similar illegal immigrants and their (though illegal choice) morally correct choice. He closes in stating that “The survival and growth of our own civilization may well depend upon our imagining better.”(2). In other words, to achieve a better society we must imagine a better society. What Savant fails to provide in his article though, is both sides of immigration.
“But Crack is illegal!” you say. The point Moore is making is that crack is illegal for a reason. “We, as a society have determined that crack destroys people’s lives.” “It ruins entire communities.” “It tears apart the very backbone of our country.” Our country has laws that tell us that we cannot sell crack because of this reason, but what about corporate downsizing? Corporate downsizing also destroys communities and families so why are it not illegal? Moore states, “For every pound of cocaine that is transformed into rack, a dealer stands to make a profit of $45,000.” This is a statistics that shows how much money you could make by selling crack.
At a later day the Pfizer CEO, Hank McKinnell, mentioned the memo was “a really bad idea,” assuring the city that Pfizer would not pull out of the Discovery site. Anxiety intensified in the city as the merger date approached. In late April 2003 employees were notified of the reorganization and layoff decisions made by Pfizer, which caused more anger and confusion in the community. Analysis: I. (1) Ethical Assessment of Hank McKinnell’s Actions and the WARN Memo Based on the case study, it is my opinion that unfortunately Hank McKinnell did not handle the Medicare situation in an ethical manor, however, Hank McKinnell’s actions with regards to the WARN memo were ethically neutral, as this was a transactional requirement on the part of the government.
There exists laws of, but it is prudent that one understand that war; even with laws can and never will be clean and moral. Now we face a new war, the War on Terrorism. In this war we hope to not cause deaths to civilians and/or non-combatants, while the enemy attempt the exact opposite. Additionally the enemy hides among civilians and non-combatants, thus mitigating the advantage that America and its Allies have regarding firepower and resources. This method also allows them to operate purely within the civil population.
I feel CSI is failing by not inspecting every container. If the enemy finds they have a chance to smuggle equipment into America by using a container that “poses no security risk”, then they will be sure their containers don’t look suspicious at all, in order to
This is vigilante style justice and should not be condoned, but a man has a right to protect his land from intruders. Our national guard should get involved and help protect our country from outside intruders. We need more personnel at our borders. If the Mexican government is not going to be proactive and help with border control then the United States should take every measure possible to control the importation of illegal goods, drugs, weapons and people. Not every person that comes across our borders is just here to work and prosper.
