An Inconvenient Truth Essay Global warming is real. Humans and the daily activities they do such as deforestation, burning of fossil fuels, or using a simple can of hairspray cause this epidemic. Mankind and its government must begin action on this issue because if we do nothing, 15 years from now, Earth will begin spiraling down a path of doom that will not only lead to the destruction of human civilization but other unsuspecting species as well. Al Gore states these facts in the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” which Gore breaks down the problem of Global Warming through logical reasoning, real life catastrophes, and the issues that inspired Al Gore’s interest in the issue. On April 3, 1989, a moving car struck Gore’s son, Albert, almost killing him. While the Gores stayed in the hospital for the next month, Al Gore took this tragic experience to heart claiming the event was "a trauma so shattering that [Gore] views it as a moment of personal rebirth", a "key moment in his life" which "changed everything.” (Al Gore). After the incident, Gore became more involved in the issue of global warming. Throughout the film, Al Gore shows off several majestic photographs of the Earth taken from multiple space missions, Earthrise and The Blue Marble. Gore refers to his loss to George W. Bush in the 2000 United States presidential election as a "hard blow" yet one which subsequently "brought into clear focus, the mission [he] had been pursuing for all these years." Gore notes that these photos dramatically transformed the way we see the Earth, helping spark modern environmentalism. After, Gore appeals to pathos by telling a story in which he and his daughter take a trip seeing the glaciers in America, describing how majestic they were.
