The Privilege of being an American, Aurora Levins Morales' "Child of the Americas" "Child of the Americas" celebrates the privilege of being an American as a condition of advantage and celebration according to Aurora Levins Morales. Morales celebrates her American experience in the poem by emphasizing how her languages, her ethnic heritage, and her historical background, all point to different advantages that distinguish her American experience from that of other individuals. Americans who have the ability to speak two languages, in this case English and Spanish, are immersed in a world that has richness of words and to some extent a new language. These Americans also have a mixture of cultural backgrounds such as European, African, and Taíno Indian that fuses in their art, foods and every aspect of daily life. Additionally, the diversity of historical backgrounds provides Americans with an intrinsic understanding of experiences and hardships that embellish our present.
Browning writes: 'It was roses, roses, all the way.' The repetition of the word 'roses' gives the impression that there are a lot of them and emphasises that. Also the use of the imagery of the roses creates a positive atmosphere which is ideal for the flashback at the beginning the poem. In line three, there is the personification of the house-roofs as they seem to 'heave and sway'. This piece of imagery gives the impression that everyone wanted to see ' The Patriot' and so he was therefore very popular with the people.
Thompson did a good job of making her argument persuasive with her use of the three persuasive pathologies. The three persuasive pathologies; credibility, emotional appeal, and reasoning, are used to draw in the audience to believe the author. Providing documented studies and researched information will help give the author credibility. Respected people tend to be more credible as well. For example, the educated, the heroes, the icons, and those with a good head on their shoulders are always more believable.
The Dutch artist Tilleke Schwarz is a contemporary embroiderer who draws with thread. Her work is often whimsical and colourful, containing images, graffiti, icons and texts and the viewer is invited to decipher the connections and meaning of the images, making their own interpretation. Her work is like visual poetry with narrative elements; they are not complete stories but they convey contemporary culture. I decided to look at Tilleke’s work in further detail as I found her ideas interesting and humorous and liked the way she used mixed media in her work. The way in which she presents text is innovative and exciting and having studied some of her examples, I experimented with similar designs and created some of my own pieces in her style.
Perhaps one of the most important aspects of storytelling is that, as a form of information, it is most likely to be shared. This makes it easier to spread important ideas and even warnings. The information meant to be shared will be more easily accepted by listeners. Storytelling is vital to humanity’s need to connect. Tall tales and fables push human beings toward each other, encouraging them to link together and form the bonds that enable them to survive.
It is obvious that this strange animal fascinated Marianne Moore and her delight in it is one of the major elements that informs the poem. Her enchantment with the pangolin can be found, and is prevalent in the beginning of The Pangolin; which like most of her poems begins with a rich and intense description of the pangolin. This description was not only meant to educate the reader about the pangolin, but must be considered in order to understand the full importance of what Marianne Moore was saying about grace. The pangolin's body is beautiful, but Moore continues to further relate the pangolin to grace by equally admiring its moral characteristics. He is a "toiler."
Florabotanica by Balenciaga My advert is on Florabotanica perfume by Balenciaga. The background is covered in Ghesquière flower cut outs. I think the Ghesquière flowers were used because they are hip and modern flowers for this reason I think the perfume is targeted at young, hip, and modern ladies/women, Ghesquière flowers are flower prints that were created a few years ago. A white background was used and this works well with the bold Ghesquière flowers. The message behind this is to show how bold the scent of the perfume is, like once you wear the perfume, heads will turn towards your direction.
