There were many describing words and was very detailed. Browning over-exaggerates the features and beauty of the nature of England almost making them come alive with her use of personification. The poem is very descriptive and also plays on all the five senses. She shows the sense of taste with the use of the word ‘sweeter’ in line 12, ‘ Made sweeter for the step upon the grass’ and also line 20, ‘Fed full of noises by invisible streams,’ the sense of hearing is shown using the word ‘noises.’ Browning also used the repetition to give the reader a sense of continuity. She shows that nature is evergreen and will be omnipresent in this world. This can be seen with the repetition of words like ‘the’ and ‘and’.
Second of all, trees can relate to Melinda very well and represent her in a way. She starts out in the beginning new and fresh like a tree's sapling. Later in the story she grows and progresses. Melinda begins to become more familiar with the school as she grows. Still she goes without friends or much help with her schooling.
One big use of the color green in the novel is the light at the end of Daisy’s dock. One other color that has a big role in the novel is white. White is shown for purity, virginity, innocence, light, goodness, safety, softness, and perfection. Daisy wears the color white; she can be reckless, but she can hide behind the innocence of the color. Fitzgerald uses color as a literary device to express deeper meaning, emotion, and the personalities of characters.
Conflict: Leigh Botts struggles with his parent's divorce and wishes they would get remarried. He also has a difficult relationship with his father. Climax: As his relationship with his father worsens, Leigh’s writing improves. Leigh calls his father after a long silence and discovers that not only has he neglected to call his son, but that he has lost his dog, and has a girlfriend with a son. Leigh matures as he comes to understand that his parents will never remarry.
Sonny’s Blues This story is about regret and heartache between to brothers. This story is meant to tell the story of a younger brother and his struggles with life and how decisions he made affected those around him. The problem I found with the story is that it never really explained exactly what took place in his life to drive him to where he was in his adult life. The story talked a little about the relationship that he had with his father and the hardships he endured because he wanted Sonny to be a better person. It talked about his mother and her protective ways.
Night: Passage Analysis Troubling thoughts consumed young Elie because he saw the ways in which father-son relationships are torn asunder by the camps. He watches as sons deny—or at least consider denying—care to their fathers, putting their own interests before their loved ones. Elie struggles with the same conflict when his father becomes ill, and when his father finally dies, Elie is profoundly sad though also proud that he never wholly compromised his own beliefs about family. The reason that Elie finds the deterioration of father-son relationships so painful is that the maintenance of this relationship seems to be the last barrier between a world that is semi-normal and one that has completely been turned upside down. I think that both poems display a kind of shock or realisation at the loss of a parent. In Harmonium, Armitage presents the shock of a son at the realisation that one day his father will die. In Praise Song, Nicholsâ character realises she must come to terms with her motherâs death and move on. I think that Nichols is much more open about the love of the narrator for her mother, simply stating the importance, presenting a stereotypical mother and daughter relationship which is open and honest. Whereas, Armitage shows a son who finds it harder to describe his feelings for his father, and shows it by using an extended metaphor of a harmonium, in order to show the reader all the memories he has had because of his father, and how he loves him.
Amir’s relationship to his mother, father and half brother, Hassan, are guilt ridden and strained. Finally, Amir addresses this guilt and proves his remorse through selfless acts. It is through selfless acts that his sins of the past are settled and he is able to become a man and form a complete sense of self. Amir’s sense of guilt stems from the very moment he was born. Amir’s mother died in childbirth and at times, Amir feels like Baba resents him for taking the life of his beautiful wife.
He hates that he became like his father, an alcoholic, he wants to stop and be better for his family and instead of following in his father’s footsteps he wants to be better and make his own. I studied him while interacting with his family and his wife seems distant from him and kind of scared to anger him. His children are also scared of him and his ten year old son seems to be angry with him and has barely any respect for him. His two year old daughter, though still a baby, seems scared of him too. He tries to talk to them normally but fails because of his past
