An Activity Series of Ions Submitted By: Musharraf Nazeer Submitted To: Mrs. Sadyora Course: SCH3UE-02 Due Date: March 30, 2015 Lab Partners: Benson, Nicolas, Naum Purpose The purpose of this investigation is to determine if, metal ions will have the same reactivity trend as its regular metal, by observing reactions produced, when mixing metals, in ionic compounds. Hypothesis The order of reactivity for the metal ions, from most reactive to least; would be Magnesium, Zinc, Iron, Tin, Copper. This is due to the fact that, metal ions still contain metal properties. Therefore, metal ions would have the same reactivity trends as regular metals. Materials Chemical Safety Glasses Clean Strips of: Copper Cu Iron Fe Magnesium Mg Tin Sn Zinc Zn Dropper Bottles of Dilute Solution of: copper(II) sulfate, CuSO4 (0.1 mol/L) iron(II) sulfate, FeSO4 (0.1 mol/L) magnesium sulfate, MgSO4 (0.1 mol/L) tin(II) chloride, SnCl2 (0.1 mol/L) zinc sulfate, ZnSO4 (0.1 mol/L) Eyedropper Well Plate Procedure All Lab equipment were collected, cleaned and prepared for the experiment Clean strips of the metals, were placed in separate well plate. For each metal, there were four samples. Quantitative, descriptions were recorded, for each metal. Using an eyedropper, each dilute solution was placed in all metals except, the metal with the same ionic cation. As the solutions were dropped on the metals, all reactions were recorded in the observation table. All dilute solutions were placed in the waste beaker.
