If drug uses could grow their own weed, for example, it wouldn’t be a gateway drug therefore no black market. I would suggest selling weed in smoke shops, or liquor stores so the tax profits would increase at the same time. Legalization would get rid of some problems but yes I would also agree it would cause some as well. There would be a spike in the drug use because of the big ‘legalization hype’ but eventually it would go down. The best way I believe to reform this is put the government in change of selling them or assigning places to sell them, like the example I used in the liquor stores.
In William Lutzs’ essay “With These Words, I Can Sell You Anything” , he explains how advertisers use weasel words in advertisements. These words are misleading and often times leave it up to the consumers to fill in the blanks. This type of technique often lead the consumer to believe the product will do exactly what that want it to do. Many contemporary cosmetic ads use some of the techniques that Lutz addressed in his essay. Some of those techniques include: the use of unfinished comparisons, unfinished claims, scientific words, and the use of words that make consumers forget about the product and focus on something bigger, better, and more attractive.
How does Claire Carmichael express her ideas about advertising? In this book, Claire Carmichael, the author talks about how ads will make the world a robotic or a fake world. It shows how people can be manipulated and loose individuality and humanity. She wants to show us how much advantage can be taken for little things, it’s just to warn us how to world might turn out because of the choices we make. Claire Carmichael expresses her opinions on advertising by creating the character of Barrett, in the chattering world, he is exposed to ads for the first time, he experiences confusion and used by Aunt Kara, as in the novel, Barrett was convinced that he should go to the dentists for a general check-up, but really it was to implant a tracking device in his tooth, this is manipulating him more because he does not know about it.
What elements of the ad were possibly constructed or altered- The ad comes across as a little extreme when it states “every time light touches your skin, it causes more wrinkles”. It might give the idea that you need to either buy this product or stay away from the light. What key messages or values was the ad representing/how could this message affect the way a person views him/herself- One key message might be that aging is a bad thing, when in reality it’s a natural way of life. A person might feel that if they start to get wrinkles they are not as beautiful as they were 10 years ago. Who is the target aduience of the advertistment- Women in their late 30s and early 40s could be a possible target.
Insurance advertisements from a few years ago had a tendency to be more serious, like Prudential’s “Own a Piece of the Rock” or Allstate’s previous ads with actor Dennis Haybert talking more seriously about insurance losses. Insurance giant Geico, a Warren Buffet owned company, started using humor a few years ago with the Geico Gecko and the Cavemen to sell insurance. Everybody needs insurance, and it is a competitive business, but Allstate is hoping to tilt the scales in their favor with a character that they have created called Mayhem. Mayhem grabs your attention with humor, he shows the craziness that can happen in life, and how Allstate is there to protect us, making this a pretty effective advertisement. Mayhem is a humorous, exaggerated depiction of the things that can go wrong in everyday life.
On May 11, 1973 Senator Proxmire, Vice President Agnew, and a few others have criticized the press about the allegations made about the Watergate scandals. One journalist in particular was accused of false accusations, Mr. John Dean. Mr. Dean reported about the Watergate scandals calling it was a cover up and president Nixon knew about what was going on. Most newspaper editorials backed up Dean saying that journalist’s job is to report the whole story and not just half of the story. Allegations acquired saying that Dean planned it all, it was a self-serving tale and that Dean wanted minimal criminal charges and maximum leverage in immunity (Jones & Company,
Overly strong flavorings are perceived as offputting, with subtle flavors having more general appeal as they enable the beer undernotes to shine through. Vodka flavors are set to become more focused on subtle and natural flavors as consumers become more refined in their tastes and increasingly prejudiced against poorer quality, cheaper flavored vodkas which have a more syrupy, sweeter taste. In contrast to other alcoholic drinks markets, the flavored alcoholic beverage category is relatively new, ensuring that consumers have fewer preconceived ideas of what flavors should be available. In addition, there are no well known base flavors to the drinks, so manufacturers are free to produce a wide range of flavor mixes in their products. Flavor trends in alcoholic drinks continue to evolve as companies seek to meet changing consumer tastes, expand into new consumer groups and bring more sophistication to brands in the face of high levels of brand competition.
Proponents of legalizing prostitution believe it would reduce crime, improve public health, increase tax revenue, help people out of poverty, get prostitutes off the streets, and allow consenting adults to make their own choices. They contend that prostitution is a victimless crime, especially in the 11 Nevada counties where it remains legal. (Legalize Prostitution). Opponents believe that legalizing prostitution would lead to increases in sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS, global human trafficking, and violent crime including rape and homicide. They contend that prostitution is inherently immoral, commercially exploitative, empowers the criminal underworld, and promotes the repression of women by men.
There is a big controversy about how unethical it is that tobacco companies continue to market to young consumers. Some say that the tobacco companies are responsible for making attractive advertising that shows using tobacco products is cool when in reality it can cause harm or even death. The Bible teaches, “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,” Psalms 1:1 New International Version. Decisions, influences, and target marketing are some of the ways that companies use unethical marketing practices. Understanding the behavior of young consumers helps create a marketing mix for purchasing decisions.
