In order to understand the effects of the ADA, it is important to understand what the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 is all about. "the ADA is a federal anti-discrimination law which prohibits private employers, state and local governments, employment agencies and labor unions from discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities in job application procedures, hiring, firing, advancement, compensation, job training, and other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment" (Human Resources…show more content…
Meaning when an organization is faced with the impact of a disability in the work environment, the employee and employer often lack information about the interactive reasonable accommodation process, the rights and responsibilities stated in the law and often the disability itself. An employee on the other hand is concerned about whether or not proper accommodations will be provided for them in addition to losing his or her jobs. Most often on the part of both the employer and the employee these concerns, can often lead to fear, uncertainty, the lack of trust, creating internal stress that often spills out into the workplace (The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission,…show more content…
In addition the DOL, EEOC, ADA, and DHS administer policies and procedures that promote equal employment laws to uphold and maintain workplace equality, safety and security.
