Americans are Immigrants The twenty-first century in the most advanced country in the world is proving to be one of the most controversial in the history of this United States of America. This country was formed by immigrants from all over the world, and yet, many citizens are attempting to close the doors to most people who are still trying to reap some of the benefits the United States of America has to offer. The United States as a whole, as well as the originating countries, has benefited from the effects of immigration. While some of the effects have been considered detrimental to the US, the benefits far outweigh the detriments. This subject has been one of concern for quite some time, with no real resolution. However, this is a conclusion reached based on the issues raised by the part of the American population that sees only the detrimental side of immigration. That attitude is one of fear and paranoia. There has always been a part of society that is very concerned about the purity of the White race. Many of the reasons that the original colonies chose to break from the British and the reason other Europeans came to this country was to live freely, worship freely and create a less repressive society. However, there was and still is a desire by some to keep white as white as possible and keep classes separate. It was, and still is to some degree, as if there was a true concern that some other nationality or race would take over or at the very least outnumber the more Caucasian part of society. The fact of the matter is that many of stature wanted others to come here, by force, if necessary, to work. Ironically, increased border security has actually 'fenced in' many immigrants that are here without permission. They fear going back and forth like they have in the past out of concern that they will be arrested and then never will be able to get back. Many have children, spouses and other family on this side of the border. As a result of the increased immigration in the 1900's, especially from the Southern border, much legislation was enacted. Far more must be done and many updated.
