Briefly describe the following; 1. A genocide created by colonialism: the case of Native Americans First what is genocide? It’s the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political or cultural group. Diseases like small pox, measles, influenza, and many others were introduced by the Europeans colonists as one of the, and the most despicable ways the Native Americans were disposed of. War and forced assimilation was also another form of genocide. Native American north of the Rio Grande whose population was 10 million plus in the 1500’s was reduced to less than 250,000 by the 1900’s. You can blame this on Christopher Columbus. 2. The Civil War 1861-1865: The American Civil War, also known as the War Between the States or simply the Civil War, was a civil war fought from 1861 to 1865, after seven Southern slave states declared their secession and formed the Confederate States of America (the "Confederacy" or the "South", which grew to include eleven states). The states that remained in the Union were known as the "Union" or the "North". The war had its origin in the fractious issue of slavery, especially the extension of slavery into the western territories. Foreign powers did not intervene. After four years of bloody combat that left over 600,000 Union and Confederate soldiers dead and destroyed much of the South's infrastructure, the Confederacy collapsed, slavery was abolished, and the difficult Reconstruction process of restoring national unity and guaranteeing civil rights to the freed slaves began. 3. Crop Sharing: Sharecropping came into wide use in the Southern United States during the Reconstruction era (1865–1877). The South had been devastated by war; planters had ample land but little money for wages or taxes. At the same time, most of the former slaves had labor but no money and no land; they rejected the kind of gang labor
