There are plenty of examples in the poem that portrays the struggles of the time for women, not to mention her struggling nationality that has been fighting for equal rights for over a century. Lucille Clifton
This is my name. This is who I am. This is how I got here. In the absence of an audience, I will write down my story so that it waits like a restful beast with lungs breathing and heart beating” (144). Aminata says this because she yearns for the ability to become literate and doesn't understand why it should only be limited to her male counterparts.
Being punished during recess, requiring to take 2 speech classes to get rid of the accent ,and “ Who to say that robbing people of its language is less violent than war “ is the quote that she put at the end of the first paragraph , are examples that clearly show how she felt back then. In “ The Veil “ the author asked for freedom to dream and to do everything in life . Although she believed that she was born with religion , the unnecessary religious rules, and stereostyle prevent her living with a light heart . She wanted to change people’s thoughts and bring justice to everyone. In an imaginary vision in the last cartoon, she holds a scale of justice, makes a sign of love, and holds a sword and shield and declares that she wants “to be justice, love, and the wrath of God all in one.” The difference from the two essays are areas of focusing.
He experiences loneliness in a society where people are constantly entertained without time given to reflection and personal development, activities often associated with the reading process. The more complicated fine distinctions of the world of books are available to him only when he leaves his reductionist society. Bradbury does not realize just how unhappy he is with his life and the world he lives in until Clarisse talks about her "strange" family, the one that actually converses with each other and enjoys nature. Bradbury show just how much Clarisse’s way of life is unaccepted in Montag’s world with the quote spoken by Clarisse, “White blurs are houses. Brown blurs are cows.
Lennie’s stupidity allows him to believe that someone hurt George even though Crooks is just assuming 72. Loneliness- Crooks is alone in the world, cannot attend activities that other people enjoy 72. Loneliness- reading books is sign of solitude 74. She went against the grain, and did the unthinkable. Phyllis Wheatley, an educated woman, and she was a slave. Not only did she become educated but she put her intelligence to work and became one of the most famous poets of all time. Milkman Dead, so little can be said about such a useless, arrogant and ignorant man. This is what can be thought of Milkman in the beginning of the novel Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison. This novel was to depict a man that has struggled to find himself and his own personal freedom throughout his life. Milkman tries to find himself in an emotionless relationship with his second cousin and other woman. Milkman is a vile man that is simply confused.
“But I ain’t got neither bullet nor gun- and I’m too blue to look for one.” This poor man is so down in the dumps that he can’t even find the energy to get up and get a gun to take his life. With Langston having these same feelings he would have benefited from having someone to talk to, a friend, a relative, even a perfect stranger who was willing to listen and lend a helping hand. Langston wrote about his feelings in his poems but maybe if he had verbalized his feelings his poems may have been happier and more upbeat. After reading some of Langston Hughes poems you can see how his life is portrayed in his writings. He too was lonely and depressed.
Loneliness 12/19/13 Loneliness is a long tunnel of pain, but there is not always light at the end of the road. When John Steinbeck introduces George Milton and Lennie Small he depicts a portrait of hope for the reader. The book shows us that even though there is not always that light of hope at the end of the road, for these two ranch hands their long struggle will pay off if they finally reach the end of the tunnel, the place they have always striven for, the dream. “Guys like us are the loneliest guys in the world, they got no family, they don’t belong no place”, George tells Lennie. The ranch workers also known as “Guys like us” are invariably single men without friends or family, who have very unstable jobs and are always leaving the ranch to move onto the next ranch.
Candy has to deal with prejudice because he is old and he only has one hand. In the novel people would think that if someone cripple then he or she is useless. Carlson is a good example because he tells Candy to put down his dog because he is old and useless, this relates to Candy because he is also old and useless because he only has one hand. All the characters in “Of Mice and Men” struggle through the harsh realities of loneliness, isolation, prejudice, lack of friendship and the inability to build a secure financial for their future . By having someone to speak to and having a dream they never gave up and were able to get through the cruel circumstances that they faced during the great
