CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Ointments nowadays are readily available and are usually made from chemicals. Seldom do we see ointments which are made from herbal ingredients. In our study we found an easy home to do or do it on your own ointments, which is made from Aloe Vera extract. This could reduce our expenses from buying those readily available ointments. And since it is made from herbal extracts it can help also in reducing different kinds of side effects of the chemicals in our body. This could also help us in determining if Aloe Vera and extract can really help in wound and skin healing. MAIN PROBLEM: Will the Aloe Vera extract be effective as an ointment for skin rashes and insect bites? SPECIFIC PROBLEMS: There were 2 specific problems that the researcher came up to: 1. Will the ointment be effective as the commercially available ointments in the pharmacies? 2. Can the Aloe Vera extract help in the healing of skin rashes and insect bites? 1 HYPOTHESIS The following Hypothesis was formulated by the researcher: 1. The use of herbal ointments is more effective than using the commercially available ointments. 2. It is possible that herbal ointments can help in the healing of skin rashes and insect bites. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY It is important to know if herbal extracts can be as effective as the commercially available ones as it is because most of the people now are health conscious and more and more people nowadays look and use alternative or herbal medicines for their illnesses. It is because those herbal medicines do not have this harmful side effects as that of the ones that are made from chemicals. So it is important for us to know and prove that herbal medicines indeed can be as effective as the commercially available ones without any harmful side effects.
