All energy sources have drawbacks Alan Foots SCI207: Dependence of Man on the Environment (ABL1202A) Instructor: Shannon Corona February 8, 2012 Resembling any other energy source and technology, nuclear energy has benefits and drawbacks in each of the three proportions of sustainable development: environmental, social and economic. Safety is of vital significance in this concern. Waste management and disposal, rising prices of fossil fuels support the effectiveness of nuclear-produced electricity. Although the mainstream of energy depletion at present-day comes from fossil fuels that create harmful side effects, other energy sources do exist. Certainly, there are numerous substitute energy sources that can be used as an alternative to fossil fuels. Other energy sources exemplify one way nations can work towards sustainable development. Sustainable development refers to advancement that meets the needs of the current people, but doesn’t obstruct the ability of upcoming generations to meet their needs. In other words, sustainable development necessitates the cautious and calculated use of energy with the yet to come in mind so that upcoming generations appreciate the same earth we do now. Present study concerning the state of the global environment is prodigious and shows unrelenting debility in air quality, biodiversity, wetlands and fisheries, and depletion of the ozone layer. According to the United Nations Environment Programme, in the previous era alone carbon dioxide intensities in our atmosphere have augmented by more than 25%.
