The statement asserts that spending at least one semester studying abroad would be beneficial to college and university students, and to this view I cannot agree more since in nowadays it’s crucial for students to go out their own country and get immersed into a foreign country which possesses totally different culture and social situation. Broadening our students’ horizons and visions has been increasingly more important for individual’s growth and society’s development. Therefore, there’s no doubt that almost every parent is wishing to send their children abroad, not even mention the ever increasing numbers of overseas students emerged in USA, UK and other developed countries in recent years. On the one hand, being immersed in a foreign country could give you access to know a different culture and society, and you can learn more than you can imagine. First, the foreign surrounding can offer you a perfect chance to enhance your foreign language ability, and that’s much more effective to live in a place where all your surroundings are talking in the language you are interested in and you also have to force yourself to open mouth and embrace the language. Second, getting to know an exotic culture and different social situations may broaden your horizon and give you new concepts and ideas. Hence you maybe would challenge your old value orientation and break up your inherent views that formed when staying home. Third, by comparing with another country, you could clearly see the weakness of your mother country and when you come home and step into society, you could apply some beneficial methods that have been maturely implemented in foreign countries to solve some certain social problems.
