Alexander the Great Alexander the Great was born on 356 BC in Pella, the capital of Macedonia. Alexander did have school because he had a personal tutor. His tutor’s name was Aristotle. Alexander had 2 children; his first was Herakles, the son of Alexander’s mistress Barsine. His second child was with his first wife Roxane they had a son Alexander IV. Alexander was the kind of Macedonia and conqueror of the Persian Empire. He is considered one of the greatest military geniuses of all times. Alexander achieved a commanding post among the senior generals as the Macedonian army invaded Greece. Alexander the Great died of an illness in 323 BC. Alexander the Great was important because by the age of 16 he was already leading an army to battle and he never lost a battle. He also created one of the largest empires in ancient history. He was the ruler of Macedonia. He is known as one of the greatest commanders of all time. Lasting effects from Alexander are spread of Greek culture which people still believe in and commit to. Everywhere he went, he founded new cities and established Greek temples, merchants, athletics, and etc. The 2nd thing is called assimilation; assimilation is when two cultures blend together. Alexander started this because he married a Persian woman, and encouraged his generals to do the same.
