alexander the great Alexander the great Who: Alexander III also know as Alexander the Great, the King of Macedonia and conqueror of the Persian Empire is considered one of the greatest military geniuses of all times. He was son of philip II King of Macedonia, and Olympias, the princess of neighboring Epirus. Where: Alexander was born and raised in macedonia.He spent his childhood watching his father make Macedonia into a great military power. When he was 13, he had Aristotle as his personal tutor. During the next three years Aristotle gave Alexander a training in many subjects that all of which became of importance in Alexander’s later life. In 340, when Philip assembled a large Macedonian army and invaded Thrace, he left his 16 years old son with the power to rule Macedonia in his absence as regent, which shows that even at such young age Alexander was recognized as quite capable. What:After Philip II took over greece he planed to take over Persia but he couldent because during his daughter’s wedding Philip was stabbed. Alexander took over and followed his farther’s plans. He first led 35000 soldiers in to anatolia after that he led them to egypt and there the egyptians welcomed him as a liberator and crowned him pharaoh. After Egypt he went into mesopotamia there he faced an army of 250000 men, Alexander was able to take the army and won the battle. After this Alexander expaned his empire as far as the indus vally. His soldiers asked to turn back but on the way back in babylon he had serious fever and died. When: Alexander was able to take over this huge empire in 13 years from 336 B.C to 323 B.C. Why: Alexander the great is the most important person in history because of the terrior he took over. Not one person could of expaned an empire this big in such little time like alexander did.
