Michelle Belisle ENG “Alcohol should be banned.” As Belizeans we mentally value freedom, hard-work and dedication and we are in love with the idea of being independent but I ask are we really free or dedicated to our jobs and are we really and truly independent? We tolerate laziness, procrastination etc. in our work place as well as drug usage by almost everyone so long as they are 18. Are we actually free if our youths and other citizens including high ranking class individuals in the elite class in our society are hooked on drugs? Drug is a substance that has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body, in particular. Drugs such as alcohol should be banned and should be illegal because it affects our health and can lead to death as well as the fact that it leads to individuals committing crimes that affect not only the victims but also the society where it develops a sense of fear. Why should we fight against all of this and stress about them when the Government have the answer in their hands which is banning alcohol! On the contrary, my opponent may say that alcohol should not be banned based on the fact that people should have the freedom to do what they want with their body, it creates a great and spontaneous atmosphere for peers where it enables them to have fun in whatever they are doing. They may also say that it gets rid of stress and daily pressure of life’s unending troubles. My opponent claims that alcohol allows you to have fun without worrying about daily troubles. In refute to my opponent’s view I say that alcohol should be banned! Yes, we have the right to choose and make our own decisions however; too many people need other to make the right decision for them because they can’t think on their own.
