AIDS TO NAVIGATION By: Lt Farizha bin Ibrahim RMN N/404105 Introduction Navigation Aids or Aids to Navigation can defined as instruments or tools that can assist navigator in navigating ship. It’s give the information related to the safety and direction guide. It’s also can determine as a internal and external navigation aids. The aid’s outside of the ship where they are provided to help the mariners determine their position and route Internal navigational aids for the mariners while sailing itself such as echo sounder, gyro compasses and Doppler Logs, electromagnetic log, global positioning systems and so on. Internal and environment navigational aids have the same function to provide guidance for mariners to steer the ship towards the destination safely. Navigational aids are in the form of lateral type system buoys or fixed aids. It will show the location of hazards or areas in and survived for shipping purposes by showing a portion that needs to be traversed. To understand this lateral system, the understanding or intent translation upstream direction is important. Upstream Direction is the direction taken by the ship when approached from the sea to the river, and continues to harbor or more recognizable as the river upstream. For some waters, upstream direction is shown in the chart by using lines and arrows. If any ship approached the harbor to the direction downstream, starboard hand aids need to be perpetuated in the Courant starboard (right) ships and port hand aids also conserved in the Courant port (left).
