Rock music also shocked humanity with harsh lyrics and wild instrumentation. Many artists in a variety of genres, included rock, soul and folk, and they sang about civil and women’s right and many other social issues. Soul music, focused mainly on the race and civil issues during the sixties. James Brown was one of the soul artists that spoke out through his music about racial and social injustices and to uplift Black Americans. Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell were part of the folk music scene when it came to protesting against or for social issues.
R&B/race-records were music only for black people and slaves. The R&B genre later turned into blues and jazz and out of jazz and a little country came Rock ‘n’ Roll. But in the present America a lots of people just listen to the regular and mainstream pop. I think it’s sad to see much good, even though old, music disappearing in the coming generation. Even though I like America I think that some artists have gone too far and don’t deserve their fame.
Rock & Roll history Where did this type of music come from? The rhythm of rock and rock is from Africa. The immediate origins of rock and roll lie in the late 1940s and early 1950s through a mixing together of various popular musical genres of the time. These included gospel, folk music, and the blues - particularly the electric forms being developed in Memphis, Chicago, New Orleans, Texas, California, and elsewhere - piano-based boogie woogie, and jump blues, which were collectively becoming known as rhythm and blues. Also in the melting pot creating a new musical form were country and western music (including Western swing and influences from traditional Appalachian folk music), jazz, and gospel music.
It also had deeper roots in a style of music called “Blues,” which was used to express the daily experiences of the community (History). Other influences include the combination of West African folk music with the popular classical music of Europe, developing into syncopated rhythms and chord variations on classical pieces (Passion). Jazz started when World War I had just ended and a social revolution was on it's way. Customs and values of previous were rejected. Life was to be lived to the fullest.
His lyrics in the album are more poetic rather than geared toward the party scene. Kendrick Lamar is trying to promote a movement of black representation and carry the listener through a journey through the nation of Wakanda and the movie Black Panther. To further guide the journey through lyricism Kendrick Lamar in engages in perspectivism to immerse the listener. In the song “Paramedic!” he starts the song by stating that “I am Killmonger no one’s perfect but no one’s worthless” and in “King’s Dead” he says “All hail King Killmonger” (CITE). Killmonger, the supervillain, is the aggressive of the movie and in the song “Paramedic!” and “King’s Dead” Kendrick Lamar is rapping from Killmonger’s perspective.
Jazz and the Blues, often referred to as just Jazz and Blues is a musical form originating from the Western Hemisphere; more specifically, New Orleans, Louisiana which can be found on the south coast of the United States of America. The location of its origin has therefore made it eligible to be considered a western style of music. This music style is heavily consisted of syncopation, improvisations and generally tends to have a steady beat or a “walking bass line”. Complex harmonics and distinctive performance techniques also play a part in defining this musical genre. New Orleans, as mentioned before is located along the coast of North America and during times of slavery it was a hub for trade of goods, services and slaves via ships.
MUSC3004 Assignment I Student: Josh Coomansingh (60622) Instructor: Aidan Chamberlain Course: Form & Structure II February 3, 2015 Coomansingh 1 Question: Discuss the formation and development of the Blues, including notable figures in the genre. The blues is the label given to both the musical form and genre originating from the South of the USA by the African-Americans towards the end of the 19th century. The blues genre is based on the blues form, but possesses other characteristics such as lyrics, bass lines and instruments. The blues has evolved into a variety of styles, including jump blues, classic blues, country blues, boogie-woogie and Chicago blues. The blues as a style has three recognisable features which are: the so-called blue note or sad feel, an AAB three-line lyric structure, and a particular pattern of call and response between the lyrics and the instruments.
Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, and Elvis Pressley introduced this Genre. Classic Rock evolved in the United States and stemmed from a combination of various music genres. Those music genres that Rock stemmed from were blues, African-American genres, jump blues, jazz, and gospel music. The history of bachata Bachata is popular guitar music from the Dominican Republic. Now overwhelmingly successful among Latinos in the United States, bachata took shape over a period of about forty years in the bars and brothels of Santo Domingo, not gaining acceptance in its native land until about ten years ago. Young groups like Aventura have a similar relationship to original bachata as rock and rollers do to the blues, which has languished in the shadow of its more commercially viable descendant. In fact, the parallel between bachata and the blues is marked. Although bachata developed out of, and bachateros play, a variety of different rhythms, notably including merengue, the music which is specifically called bachata is a variant of the bolero.
Shortly after their first tour, the group's eponymous first album was released on 12th January 1969. Its blend of blues and rock influences with distorted amplification made it one of the pivotal records in the evolution of heavy metal music. Although several of Led Zeppelin's earliest songs were based on or were cover versions of blues standards, others such as "Communication Breakdown" had a unique and distinctively heavy sound. Led Zeppelin also featured delicate acoustic guitar on "Black Mountain Side" in which the influence of Davy Graham can be heard, and a combination of acoustic and electric approaches on the reworked folk song "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You".
