Differences in Socioeconomic Status The scenario for the school dance dress code is something that typically happens all over. The public school in this scenario allows every student who lives close to the school to be able to enroll. Being that any student who lives close by can enroll, it allows any race and any type of income there which can result in different types of problems between the students. Students who are wealthy usually have expensive items and have a tendency to rub it in to everyone else they come in contact with. There are three social factors that impact this scenario which are wealth, income, and power. The social factors of wealth and income give the students who have more money the opportunity to buy expensive items for their children. In this scenario, it is clear how this happened because the students who had more wealth rented tuxedos and bought nice dresses. This caused children who have little or no money to suffer, become hurt and feel not good enough because they couldn’t afford nice enough clothing compared to the wealthier children. The social factor of power is usually based off of being wealthy and having income. Power can also add up to students becoming more popular. When students enter middle school they aim to become popular. In this scenario you can see the way power was taken advantage of by students and their parents. The parents of three boys at the school were renting a limousine for their sons and their dates. Students who had little to no money became upset over this because they couldn’t afford expensive transportation. I feel in order to settle the situation the students in this scenario faced, would be to set standards for all school dances. Standards for school dances could include certain dress codes such as casual wear. If some type of standard is set for all school dances, it will allow every student the
