Classroom Management Elisha Hawkins- Beason AED/200 August 25, 2013 Gary Shepard Classroom Management The first thing I do to organize the classroom is to determine its size and then determine the materials that I will need for the class. For example, I place very minimal materials in the history classroom – on the wall, I hang pictures of US presidents, posters that display the classroom behavior policies and students rights. In front of the classroom is a chart that shows the American history. For the benefit of group discussion, my table is placed in the middle of the room surrounded by the students’ desks. I make sure that the students are aware of these, as soon as the semester begins. Should there be any changes, I make sure that I keep the students updated. I set my expectations and goals and they are also posted on the wall. An open door policy is implemented – students can approach me if they need anything. The students are aware that the expectations and goals are valuable to all of us, students and teacher. As far as my teaching method is concerned, I implement the method that I learned in the U.S. Army. The teacher should be practical be a positive influence in the students’ lives. Lead by example and teach by example, so to speak. I intend to train and guide my students in every aspect, even in other subjects. I persuade my students to perform excellently in anything they do. When there are upcoming tests or quizzes, I make sure that I tutor them beforehand. I engage them to let me know if there is something that they do not understand, and I also want them to support each other. I hope that my students use the skills that they learn in my classroom so I can help them progress their skills more. This teaching style is classified as constructivist demonstrator or personal model. It can also be classified as constructivist philosophy, as it is a very practical method of teaching. I also intend to use other teaching methods, although I intend to maximize those that I am already knowledgeable
