Carbon dioxide is an significant contributor to the enhanced greenhouse effect. It can result in trapping more of the heat that Earth is radiating into space and cause detrimental climate changes and rising sea levels. The main concern regarding the combustion of organic compounds is the result of incomplete combustion. Incomplete combustion occurs when there is not enough oxygen to completely burn the fuel to carbon dioxide and water, causing pollution and fuel inefficiency. For example: Pentane reacts with little oxygen to form
It also releases large amounts of methane which is considered an earth warming gas. Just like methane , greenhouse gases are released. Greenhouse gases add to the greenhouse house affect which causes global warming. The gases help trap heat making temperatures. The raise of the temperature has been affecting humans and animals.
Lake Huron is one of the Great Lakes and a major part of our fresh water system, which contains many wildlife and species. The lake however, is in a real danger, adversely effecting habitats, fish, wildlife, and human lives. Lake Huron has become a dumping ground for many companies, dumping waste that contains many pollutants. Bacteria levels have increased in the lake which can cause serious illness. These pollutants have reduced water quality, contaminated soils, and damaged the Lake’s ecosystems.
2013).Pharmaceutical companies sometimes place active chemicals and waste into groundwater sources, in which almost all of the groundwater may be untreated which most likely cause contamination. (Herber, 2002). Abstract: Increase in the emissions of carbon dioxide by burning fossil fuels is the largest cause of environmental down grading resulting not only in global warming but also causing acid rain which alters the pH balance of ground water. Water is a universal solvent; however, its dissolving properties are very sensitive to changes in temperature and pH. Global economic growth has, unfortunately,
Carbon dioxide does not only cause problems in the atmosphere but also in the ocean. The coming of industrial advancement has brought many changes in the earth’s environment (Gibson et al., 2011). Industrialization has brought an increase in gases released into the atmosphere; carbon dioxide forming the largest percentage. The ocean absorbs about 30% of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and, thus the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere leads to a corresponding increase in the amounts the ocean absorbs. When the ocean absorbs carbon dioxide it reacts with water to produce chemicals such as bicarbonates and carbonic acid, which lowers the pH of the ocean.
June Avant English 101 November 22, 2010 Global Warming Controversy Global warming is an increase in the average temperature of the earth’s atmosphere which causes climatic changes. Global warming leads to changes in rainfall patterns, sea level, negative impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans. Al Gore and Daniel Botkin both have great points about global warming. Botkin has a scientific perspective about global warming; however, Gore’s position is better. Al Gore uses facts and evidence to support his views about global warming.
Sulfuric Acid is a strong acid that exists as a colorless oily corrosive liquid and is made by reacting sulfur trioxide with water. This is most commonly found in batteries, manufacture of fertilizers, explosives, detergents, dyes and other different chemicals. Sulfuric Acid is very dangerous to humans as it can cause respiratory tracts of humans and other animals while doing some major damage to plants that helps provide oxygen for us. Ground-level ozone is a secondary air pollutant formed when sunlight triggers reactions between nitrogen oxides and volatile hydrocarbons. If a human inhales ground-level ozone it can cause chest pain, throat irritation, and congestion.
Many worry about the negative consequences Global Warming may have on our Earth. It is believed that there will be detremental effects from sea to land. A rise in water levels causing the icecaps to melt. Melting icecaps would then release methane another greenhouse gas. The oceans salt water would mix with freshwater and CO2 would get absorbed into the oceans causing disabling effects on our waters food chain.
In the U.S., the storm drain system (it is connected to the drain of gutters, driveways, and streets) is usually separated from the sanitary sewer drain system (connected to toilet and sink, for example) which deals with pollutants. Thus, storm water flows directly into water streams. Even if the storm water drain system is connected to treatment plants, flooding causes storm water overflow. Impervious surfaces reduce the amount of water which seeps into the ground and
The wind blows these acidic gases into building, cars, homes and trees. Water that runs of these buildings adds acid to the acid rain, making the combination more acidic than regular rain. Acid rain is measured by a pH scale, the lower the number, the more acidic, Vic versa. The effects of acid rain are, damages of forest soils, fish and other living organisms, it also affects lakes, streams and causes aluminum to be highly toxic to species and aquatic organisms. In North America acid rain affects the Adirondack and the Catskill Mountain in the state
