Advantages to Law Enforcement Education

“Value & Advantages for Law Enforcement Education” In the past few years, there has been a new trend with Law Enforcement. New applicants or newer Officers are starting this profession with a Bachelors degree and some also have obtained a Master’s degree. I personally believe part of this reason was the economy within the recent years. During the past few years, a lot of departments were no longer accepting applications therefore, the candidates in the academy had to do something else with their time. It was at this time most recruits decided to go back to school and obtain their degree. If I would have known back then before I started what I know now and how involved Law Enforcement is, I believe I would have completed school prior to entering this line of field. I have been an Officer for approximately five years with a family and two children. I am also working in a special assignment that requires a lot of my personal time. I will say this much that going back to school at this point has proven difficult but its something that needs to be done. I believe having your degree provides you an easier road to travel for promotions within the department. It also provided you some great learning experience to apply to everyday life and incidents and helps open your mind and think outside the box on certain situations. In my opinion, the best thing about obtaining your degree is to have something to fall back on incase something should happen that would cause you to leave this career. At the same time, it also allows you to move forward after your retire should you be one of the Officers that started this career early. We all are aware the dangers that are involved with everyday activities within Law Enforcement. There have been numerous incidents where newer Officers are hurt early on in their career and they don’t gain the experience
