Today, most arguments against free international trade are by special interest groups. Both labor unions and management oppose free trade when they believe that it will make them worse off. What they conveniently ignore is that free trade will make everyone else better off. The arguments most often heard are: • It's important to keep jobs in the United States. • We don't want money leaving the country. • National security is at stake. • Other nations don't treat their workers fairly. • Other nations are “dumping” and don't open their market to us. (Gorman, 2003) But in this article of The Ethics of World Trade there are two people that talk about it defending their interest groups. There are Reverend JIM WALLIS (Editor, SOJOURNERS MAGAZINE) and Mr. DANIEL GRISWOLD (Cato Institute). “Well, I'm concerned about the moral and practical impact of protectionism. I think it falls hardest on the poor and most vulnerable in society. We had the highest trade barriers against food and clothing, which are essentials, and we had the highest trade barriers against those products made in poor countries. So we -- it's almost as though we've targeted the poor with our protectionist policies. I think free trade brings people together; it raises the material well-being of people in society and creates a more peaceful world.” Said Mr. Griswold (Cato Institute) And he is right, because when a country close barriers in different sectors of industry they have higher earnings on their products and their economy can increase and the importance of their brands get higher interest. But it can also have their issues, because of that barrier, you are limiting people to consume products that they want and most of they are going to try to get them and there is where piracy born, because when people want to get some illegal products they go to some place where they can get them.
