Nowadays, television is the most recognisable and popular form of media and almost all homes have at least one. Television is our connection to the outside world. It is considered as an indispensible item and we cannot imagine life without it. Like many other things in the world, it has its own advantages and disadvantages. The main advantage of the television is that it keeps you updated by things that happen around the world. Television may be the main source of news, events or competitions taking place all around the world. Many channels update people with news up to four times a day and current affairs programmes takes a deeper look at news which had affected the world on that day or week. News broadcasts keep many people up to date on the outside world and it is possible to know all the things that can happen in a day by just sitting in the comfort of your home. Nonetheless, some of these news broadcasts can or may monopolize your opinions. The next advantage is that we are able to get a vast amount of information in documentaries that are available for watching. The vast amount of educational programmes available for viewing can stimulate people. National Geographic and Discovery Channel helps you to learn something new and it is the fastest way to improve your knowledge. Some people who cannot afford lessons or courses can just turn on the television and switch to any educational programmes to get a basic knowledge of that particular subject. There are also documentaries available for watching. A very common disadvantage is the amount of time spent on watching the television. If we watch too much television without learning anything or any purpose, we will be wasting our time. Many people prefer watching television shows to exercise or any physical activity.
