It was conducted in 50 countries and some of the results were actually surprising. It of course showed anti-American sentiments are on the up swing which is no big surprise, but what was surprising was the fact that the desire to learn English was also on the up swing. Murray and Ungar Synthesis In the many recent debates about how to approach higher education, one issue that has constantly appears is the question of students benefiting from a liberal arts based education. Some argue that a liberal arts education is helpful in teaching students the basic life skills, others claim that a more specific field of study is necessary in order to b successful in life. This idea “deemphasized differences and emphasizes instead the need to disregard diversity and accept immigrants as Americans as long as they learned to speak English and became citizens. In fact, by merely eliminating the bilingual and multilingual courses, the government would have millions of dollars to spend on foreign language courses for all students. Also, basic education courses could be helped by the elimination of such bilingual courses that are currently suffering from a severe lack of funds. The seriousness of this debate can not be underestimated, for to do so would lead to the reprimand of Untied States history. It is currently in our own hands as to the fate of our fellow Americans as to what road we shall travel. For to create some sort of dual linguistic society would change the scope of the moral cloth that makes Americans who we are.
My feelings for not speaking Spanish are that we speak more English because we are in America and that is the language spoken primarily. They have taken Spanish class and did ok but don’t use it much. My parents and I talk in Spanglish on a daily bases, especially if we don’t want to let my boys here what we are talking about. I don’t feel like not teaching them was a bad thing. I also feel like I don’t like it when I am approached by other ethnicities and spoken Spanish to.
The third and fourth generation of immigrants is particularly different from previous generations of immigrants because of the failure to become a custom with economic status, intermarriage rates and education norms. Like I have said before, I believe that the Spanish language is such a powerful thing, but more and more immigrants are using Spanish as a primary language and not speaking English. Even if they do speak English it is often not the best. There is such a huge concentration in certain areas that amongst them English is not needed. I personally feel that as a American born citizen, all immigrants need to learn English.

In this paper I will present pro’s and cons for each side of the argument. “1 Now the whole world had one language and a

Legal immigrants, especially those who plan to stay permanently, must pay taxes and are more likely to attend school to learn academic subjects such as English, and a trade skill. Since they can be open about who they are, they are more likely to try to be like other Americans and adopt American culture. After all this, their ultimate goal can be completed of living a better life as a true American citizen.
we speak English. Nevertheless, the English language is one of the more difficult languages to learn and I can understand why many immigrants may feel overwhelmed and intimidated when faced with learning a whole new language. This is why, I believe, the U.S. should implement a required program specifically designed to aid incoming immigrants in learning English.
