Many people are encouraged to participate in sports from a very young age. Doing physical activities enables us to promote our health and fitness as it safeguards our body and prevents it from various types of diseases such as stroke, high blood pressure and diabetes. It also develops our social and communication skills. For example, through playing team sports, we learn how to communicate and cooperate with each other. In other words, we improve our teamwork skills. Moreover, it might improve our self-esteem as well as patience, which is really important in today’s increasingly competitive world. Engaging in sports is, therefore, more than beneficial. However, what if sports for children and adolescents become too competitive? The aim of this essay is to think about some of the positives and negatives related to competitive youth sports.
